Oldupai Gorge, which is the Maasai word for the “wild sisal plant” is one of the world’s most famous archaeological site of East Africa. The Olduvai Gorge is a must-stop for anyone interested in mankind’s ancestors. The Olduvai Gorge attracts thousands of visitors each year to see the origin of our ancestors who lived over 1.75 million years ago. A guided walk within the gorge is the best way to discover this extraordinary Archaeological site, some of the most interesting areas of interest are the hominid footprints in Laetoli. These footprints were discovered on a volcanic rock and are over 3 million years old. There is a small museum that was built for public viewing and contains excavated remains and artefacts for tourists to see.

Olduvai Gorge is in northern Tanzania and is situated between the Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti National Park.
