Nestled within the heart of Northern Tanzania, Tarangire National Park has an incredible biodiversity that Tanzania has to offer. The park’s landscape is dotted with majestic baobab trees, their ancient form, The Tarangire River, meandering through the park, is a lifeline for the resident wildlife, creating a vibrant ecosystem that supports an abundance of flora and fauna and the green belts create excellent birding in the park.

Over 550 different bird species are recorded in this park, the swamps that are spread all over the park provide excellent habitat for birds. making Tarangire a famous safari destination for birding, some of the key species to look out for include vulturine guineafowl, northern pied babbler, yellow collared lovebird, ashy starling, rufous tailed weaver, African grey flycatcher, pink breasted lark, great white pelican, bare-faced go-away bird, ostrich, slate coloured boubou, Donaldson smith’s nightjar.

When to go

Though Tarangire National Park provides excellent bird watching all year round Bird watching in Tarangire National Park is good all year round but the best time is during the period when migratory bird species begin arriving to Tarangire National Park from Europe and Northern Africa from November to April.
