Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park-Bwindi is home to half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas. Gorilla tracking is done daily after purchasing a gorilla-tracking permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. You are advised to book your permit at least 3 months prior to secure your day especially if you prefer a certain location. Only 8 individuals from 15 years of age are permitted to visit a gorilla family per day.

Gorilla permits

Unlike other wildlife like Lions, Leopards, Elephants, Rhinos and Buffalos that can be seen throughout across Africa, Mountain gorillas are only found in three countries two being in East Africa and the third in West Africa at the edge of the Albertine Rift valley, this will require travelers to book their gorilla passes way in advance in order to guarantee trekking and minimum of 6 months to 1 year is required and Bwindi has 4 Mountain Gorilla Trekking gates and travelers must first secure their permits before booking a lodge to stay, the 4 gates includes Buhoma in the North, Ruhija in the East, Rushaga in the lower south and Nkuringo in the upper south respectively.

Age limit for Gorilla trekking in Uganda

Due to the strenuous nature of the Activity a minimum age of 15 is required to be able to acquire a gorilla permit, those below that may not be able to secure gorilla permit.

Best time to trek Mountain Gorillas in Bwindi forest.

The best time for gorilla trekking in Uganda is during the dry season which runs from May to October and from December to February when the trails are drier making the trek in the thick rainforest easier and also with less rainforest the photography is better.
