How to get to Mgahinga Gorilla National Park-Mgahinga’s most striking features are its three conical, extinct volcanoes, part of the spectacular Virunga Range that lies along the border region of Uganda, Congo, and Rwanda. Mgahinga forms part of the much larger Virunga Conservation Area which includes adjacent parks in these countries. The volcanoes’ slopes contain various ecosystems and are biologically diverse, and their peaks provide a striking backdrop to this gorgeous scenery.

It was created to protect the rare mountain gorillas that inhabit its dense forests, and it is also an important habitat for the endangered Golden Monkeys. As well as being important for wildlife, the park also has a huge cultural significance, in particular for the indigenous Batwa pygmies. This tribe of hunter-gatherers was the forest’s “first people”, and their ancient knowledge of its secrets remains unrivaled.

Getting to Mgahinga Gorilla National park.

By Air from Entebbe.

Aerolink Uganda offers scheduled and charter flights from Entebbe to Kisoro airstrip, the flight takes about 1:30 minutes, then a 1 hour transfer by road will take you to either Muhavura gate or Ntebeko gate which is about 17 Kms from Kisoro airstrip to the park

By Road from Entebbe or Kampala.

Mgahinga gorilla national park is the last national park south west of Kampala and Entebbe, via Masaka-Mbarara-Ntungamo-Kabale-Kisoro road, the trip will take 11 hours using a 4×4 safari vehicle.

By Road from Kigali.

Then from Kigali via Musanze the drive will take you 3 hours to the Cyanika border, then you may spend 40 minutes at the border and then take 1 drive to the park gate.
