The forest’s close proximity to Murchison falls national park offers a safe haven for other wildlife like elephants, Lions, Leopards as well as Buffaloes. Early in the morning is the ideal time for nature walks because then you will have an opportunity to find a number of forest inhabitants licking salt by the forest glades. River Waiga offers refreshments to the various wildlife species within this forest.
Chimp Trekking Experience.
Chimpanzee trekking is one of the top activities in this area alongside birding and forest walks, morning hours offer a spectacular chance to encounter the chimpanzees, most times as you start your trek you will hear loud sounds and this absolutely excite visitors as they explore this rainforest, trekking in this area is done in the morning and afternoon where visitors will explore the forest for 4 hours and spend 1 hour with the chimpanzees.
Team of expert guides will lead the way to the forest following the instructions of the trackers, along the way you will also lookout for other wildlife like Bush bucks, duikers and monkeys like Black and white colobus monkey, red tailed monkey, Vervet monkeys and the Blue Monkeys.
Chimp Habituation Experience.
With the Habituation Experience, you will spend an entire day with our ‘cousins’ and learn about their way of life. Chimpanzee Habituation in Budongo Forest started in 1992 with the aim to habituate the chimpanzees to human presence, without necessarily altering their natural behavior. This is a long process and it can take up to 15 years to fully habituate a chimpanzee community. The Habituation Experience offers you the unique experience to join the professional guides on their daily program and follow the chimps during their activities. Best Time for Chimp Trekking in Budongo Forest.
Budongo forest is located in lower altitudes meaning the best time to trek chimpanzees is usually during the rainy season from March to June and from October to January when there is a lot of food in the forest and lower temperatures.
