Tree climbing lions of Ishasha Queen Elizabeth-Ishasha sector is Located off the beaten track in the southern part of Queen Elizabeth National Park, the 400 square kilometer area is a hidden gem, this area has the highest concentration of wildlife in the northern game zone near the Ntungwe River and the Ntungwe valley which is a great area to see wildlife in the Ishasha sector.

Though all cats climb trees, it has become a routine for prides of lions in Ishasha sector and Lake Manyara in Northern Tanzania to climb fig trees and acacia trees frequently which could be for purposes of escaping the heat as this area is always hot during the day, avoiding insects such buffalo flies and Tsetse flies, and gaining a better vantage point to spot prey as the vegetation in the fig zone is very busy with lots of tree shrubs making it hard to spot prey so by climbing the trees just like leopards.

When to go.

The best time to see the tree-climbing lions of Ishasha is during the dry season, specifically from June to August and December to February, when the vegetation is shorter and access roads are more passable and the days are hot.
