Watamu shoreline, which is located north of Mombasa, is arguably Kenya’s greatest place to go big game fishing safari. This is corroborated by the creeks and bays that are home to a greater variety of reef and open-water fish than any other area along the Kenyan coast.
During October to April, the waters of the Kenyan coast are world-renowned for hosting some of the best deep sea fishing! Get your pulse racing as you reel in a mighty marlin, sailfish or kingfish and then do it all again the next day as you aim to catch tuna, dorado, wahoo or the feisty barracuda. This is a popular activity for guests staying within the Lamu Archipelago, Diani Beach or Mombasa.

Where to go for Fishing in Kenya.
Manda Bay.
Located on Kenya’s northern coast, this bay is known for its clear turquoise waters and abundant marine life, making it a popular destination for fishing.
Lake Turkana.
A top destination for anglers in Kenya’s northern region, this lake is known as the Jade Sea for its striking blue-green hues.
Lake Naivasha.
A popular fishing destination near Nairobi, this lake’s freshwaters are home to a large population of fish species.
Lake Victoria.
Shared by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, this lake is home to more than 200 species of fish, making it a great place for fishing and wildlife tours.
Aberdare National Park.
Home to several rivers and streams, this park offers excellent fishing for trout and other freshwater fish. Aberdare Cottages and Fishing Lodge Located in the Aberdare Hills, this lodge offers trout fishing, nature walks, and biking.
Mount Kenya.
Africa’s second-highest peak, this mountain offers several spots for trout fishing.
Shimoni in Pemba Channel.
Located on Kenya’s southernmost coastline, this area is close to the Pemba Channel, a marlin hotspot.

A famous lake in Kenya that harbors a good number of fish species like Nile Tilapia.

Best time for Fishing in Kenya
Game fishing along the Kenya coastline is possible throughout the year; however there are two very distinct seasons for the sport. Yellowfin Tuna Season commences from August through to the end of October, here you can expect to catch heaps of tuna and wahoo. When the north east monsoon blows, the predatory billfish flood the Kenya coastline in big numbers. This triggers Marlin Season, and this second juncture runs from December to mid-March. If you are after sailfish and marlin, this is the ideal time.
