  • Lake Shakani in Akagera National Park.

    Lake Shakani is a popular spot for sport fishing, and visitors can catch and release the fish back into the lake. After fishing, visitors can keep one fish to taste. Anglers should bring their own fishing equipment and book in advance. 

    Fish species that live in Lake Shakani in Rwanda’s Akagera National Park include catfish and tilapia: 

    Akagera National Park also offers fishing in other lakes, including Lake Ihema which is also home to hippos and crocodiles.

  • Lake Kivu.

    Lake kivu is a volcanic Lake in the Kivu province bordering Rwanda and Democratic Republic of Congo the lake is not very popular for sport fishing and adventurous fishermen can join the local fishermen in Night fishing activity where they catch Little sardine and Tilapia.

Best time for Fishing in Rwanda.

The best time for fishing in Rwanda is during the country’s dry seasons from December to February and June to September. These months are characterized by little or no rainfall which leaves the water levels low, the sky is clear and there is less wind to affect the moving boats.
