Wildebeest migration safari in March

Wildebeest migration safari in March
In March, the herds of nearly two million wildebeest and zebra remain fairly stationary; feasting on fresh grasses in the southern plains of the Serengeti and Ndutu, as their new calves grow stronger and prepare to move north. A hot-air balloon safari over the plains is a great way to understand how massive the herds are.
The Ndutu plains form part of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, on the outskirts of the Southern Serengeti plains. The area is a unique habitat with acacia trees, providing a spectacular view of Lake Ndutu and Masek at the other end. It is one of the best places in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area to spot predators and enjoy the stunning landscapes. Its one of the best places to witness the calving season for migratory wildlife, specifically the wildebeest migration. It is typically composed of vast swaths of short grassland, soda-lake Masek, marshes, and woodland vegetation supporting residents and migratory animals.
What to expect in March wildebeest Migration
The best months to visit the Ndutu Region are from December to April, when the Great Migration herds start to arrive from the north, with a peak in February – the wildebeest herds are giving birth to calves on the verdant grassy plains: thousands upon thousands of baby animals are born every day, attracting the attention of predators like cheetah, lion and hyena.
Best places to stay in the Ndutu area in March
The Ndutu Region forms part of the northern section of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. It stretches to the unfenced southern reaches of the Serengeti National Park, a meeting point between these two incredible wilderness areas. This section of the park is made up of rolling grasslands peppered with alkaline lakes that attract flocks of flamingos, as well as acacia woodlands.
