Are Mountain Gorillas Very Dangerous

Are Mountain Gorillas Very Dangerous?

Mountain gorillas live in groups also known as families of about 10-30 or even 40 members. Each group is led by a dominant silverback which determines the movement of their groups and protects them from any external threats. All members of a group have a close bond with each other.

It is important to note that 90% of gorilla charges are fake. A silverback only acts aggressively towards a threat to give time for other members of his family to seek safety and they will do that by bobbing their chest and opening their teeth wide to create fear for the approaching danger to keep the family safe.

What to do when Mountain Gorillas Charge?

Remain calm and never attempt to run. A gorilla is faster than most humans and running away will only encourage it to chase after you. Calm, submissive, avoiding direct eye contact with the gorilla and listening to the instructions from your expert ranger is all you need to do.
