Trekking the endangered mountain gorillas remains one of the most undisputed highlights of any travel to East Africa, sitting in silence beside these incredible primates deep in the rainforest can only be described as an emotionally overwhelming experience, Looking deep into the expressive brown eyes of gentle giants is surely the most exciting and poignant wildlife encounter that Africa has to offer.

What happens on the day of the Gorilla Trek?

Our Guides usually give you a comprehensive briefing about the Gorilla trekking in the evening at your lodge, this briefing will cover General information about the park and Mountain Gorillas, dress code, meals, drinking water, porters, tipping and gorilla families.

  1. Fully dressed in Gorilla Trekking Gear

Usually, you will be treated to a wake-up call by the lodge with coffee or Tea on your balcony after that you will dress in your trekking gear and get ready for morning breakfast.

  1. Morning breakfast and box lunch and enough water

You will enjoy a delicious breakfast at the restaurant of your lodge and after breakfast, the lodge will provide you with a box lunch or packed Lunch because no one is ever sure of how long gorilla trekking can take.

  1. Trackers Depart the park office to Trek Gorillas

As you enjoy your breakfast the trackers will head to the forest and start looking for the Mountain gorillas using the previous nests, broken shrub. Fresh pour, and also sounds from the Gorillas.

  1. Transfer to the Briefing point and attend the Gorilla briefing

After you are all set for the trek, your guide will drive you to the briefing where you will meet all other travellers who have gorilla permits and the rangers who will take you through a briefing about the mountain Gorilla trek and what to expect.

  1. Allocation of Gorilla Groups

As you listen to the gorilla briefing, your guide will participate in the gorilla group division, during this time clients will be divided based on physical fattiness, people who trekked the previous day and those with special interest.

  1. Trek into the Forest

Before you start your trek into the jungle, you will meet your lead guide, escorts who will carry the famous AK 47 Riffle, and porters and then your guide will start communication with the trackers and they will advise on which way to go, sometimes you may start the trek from park office or you drive to the trailhead and enter the jungle, you will then follow the trails of the trackers until you locate the mountain Gorillas

  1. Viewing the Gorillas

After locating the Mountain Gorillas you will follow the gorillas as you watch them play, and feed for 1 hour.

  1. Return to Park office and Lodge

After you will trek back to the park office where you may receive a certificate from the park or write feedback about your experience later you will drive to the lodge where you will have the opportunity to enjoy a massage or Cold drink at the lodge as memories run through your mind of this memorable experience with the mountain Gorillas.
