Equatorial Guinea Safaris, Tours & Holidays

Equatorial Guinea is a Central African country comprising the Rio Muni mainland and 5 volcanic offshore islands. Capital Malabo, on Bioko Island, has Spanish colonial architecture and is a hub for the country’s prosperous oil industry. Its Arena Blanca beach draws dry-season butterflies. The tropical forest of the mainland’s Monte Alen National Park is home to gorillas, chimpanzees, and elephants.

Equatorial Guinea is an oil-rich, developing country on the western coast of central Africa. Its capital and main port, Malabo, is located on the island of Bioko, off the coast of Cameroon. A secondary port, Luba, is also on Bioko. The mainland territory of Equatorial Guinea is bordered by Cameroon and Gabon. The principal city on the mainland is Bata. Official languages are Spanish, which is widely spoken, and French, which is widely understood and sometimes used in business dealings.  Portuguese was recently made the country’s third official language but is not widely used or spoken.

Equatorial Guinea is a beautiful country with many interesting sites and beaches, but there is little tourism information to assist in planning a vacation. Tourism facilities are limited but growing.

Despite the small size of the country, and due to its landscape diversity, Equatorial Guinea is one of the areas with the greatest biodiversity in Africa, since we can find everything from classical beaches with black volcanic sand to incredibly lush forests or Alpine lands at 3,000 meters of altitude. Aware of this wealth, the Government has reserved nearly 20% of the land of the country for the preservation of natural life.

More than a hundred different mammals make up this fauna: small antelopes, and pangolins in Guinea, you can also find some samples of large mammals such as elephants of the jungle, hippopotami, bush pigs, and the manatee.

Also numerous are the species of reptiles and amphibians, and four species of sea turtles that frequent the coast stand out.

On the coral reefs of Corisco, we find marine fauna that is not at all frequent in Central Africa. It is also important to mention the coast of Moraka, near Ureco, on Bioko, as one of the most privileged places in the area to observe the egg-laying of sea turtles.

The very rich inventory of Equatorial Guinean birds with more than three hundred known species, as well as aquatic fauna, with more than 167 species of counted fish, have been started but are still incomplete.

The animal population of Guinea is fortunate, since they inhabit a country where nature continues being as spectacular as it is virgin, but also where development permits taking the appropriate measures for their preservation in the future.

More than a hundred different mammals make up this fauna: small antelopes, pangolins, felines… The country is especially rich in diversity of primates: gorillas, chimpanzees, mandrills, colobus… But in Guinea, you can also find some samples of large mammals such as elephants of the jungle, hippopotamus, bush pig, and the manatee.

Also numerous are the species of reptiles and amphibians, and four species of sea turtles that frequent the coast stand out.

Equatorial Guinea Safari Holidays

A short trip to one of Africa’s more unusual corners. Equatorial Guinea has had a reputation for being largely inaccessible, but in recent years has become much easier to visit. We concentrate on its most interesting part, the island of Bioko, a tropical jewel sitting off the Cameroonian coast in the Gulf of Guinea.

Get inspired

Equatorial Guinea isn’t the most obvious choice for a holiday, and compared to some other destinations its sites are ‘low key’ but what it offers in abundance is the sense of exploration. Very few people visit this tiny nation, and the locals aren’t too used to tourism, but this means that your experience here will be nothing if not authentic.

Inspirational journeys

Equatorial Guinea was one of just two Spanish colonies in Africa – and then from here drive past small picturesque villages and coastlines to the town of Moka. Here we hike through forest to waterfalls, and learn about the wildlife of the island, much of which is found in few other places.
